Canadian women drop semis to Hungary at water polo World League Super Final | CBC Sports

The Canadian ladies’s water polo staff will play for bronze after struggling a 10-14 defeat to Hungary on the World League Super Final in Athens, Greece on Friday.

It was the second time the nations had met within the eight-team event, with Canada beforehand beating Hungary in a decent 13-12 battle to complete atop Group A.

Despite inserting third in its group, Hungary pulled off a shock victory over Spain to succeed in the semifinals.

Canada had entered the match with a dominant 11-Three victory over Kazakhstan beneath its belt.

Hoping to experience the momentum of two consecutive wins, Hungary who positioned fourth on the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2019 world championships will play for gold in opposition to the United States.

Canada has already certified for the Tokyo Olympics, however has but to finalize its roster. The staff opens its Olympics in opposition to Australia on July 24 on the Tatsumi Water Polo Centre.
